With there being so many great players out there, it's hard to choose just one as your favourite. My favourite keyboardists are as follows. Who are yours?

    Russell Ferrante
    Chick Corea
    Steve Weingart
    Jay Oliver
    Otmaro Ruiz
    David Goldblatt
    John Beasley
Joe Zawinul (check out 'Update' from Weather Report's This Is This album)

The late Kenny Kirkland sure did some nice things on Sting's Bring On The Night album! That famous solo of him simply is da bomb!

Kenny Kirkland passed away?? When? How? I never knew about this. I heard his playing for the first time on the GRP Allstars Big Band CD in 1992. He played on the all time classic Spain, and I really enjoyed his piano solo.

Yes, Kenny Kirkland passed away in 1998. He was found in his NY apartment after (probably) taking an overdose. Kenny had a cocaine problem. IIRC.

When I read this (already a couple of years ago), I was very sad about this. "Bring On The Night" has been (and still is) one of my favourite albums. The recently re-released movie (now on DVD) is absolutely recommended.

Sting recorded Kenny's "Dienda" on the "All This Time" album as a dedication. On the "All This Time" DVD, Sting tells something about Kenny before he playes this song.

All of you have named great keyboard players, all of whom I truly enjoy. However, I'd like to add one keyboard player that has not been named as far as I can see. That would be:

-Chester Thompson (Santana, Tower of Power)

This guy really puts the hammer down. :)
