This recording may be hard to find, as it is available only on the dmp records label and not available at just any corner record store. In fact, had I not been browsing through a magazine's music review section, I may have missed out on this fine album. Having discovered it, I call it the "great lost Yellowjackets album". Bob Mintzer may receive star billing, but this all-acoustic quartet set is a unity effort to the core. The Yellowjackets trio backing Mintzer is very tight, and Mintzer's performance as leader on various woodwinds is top notch. This is the second album they would record together, but given the rapport between Mintzer and the 'Jackets, and the ease at which they perform together, you'd think they had been working together for many years! Personal favorites are "One Music" and "Navajo", and the thoughtful "Old Friends". As with other dmp recordings, the sound is excellent.
